Denakkanaaga 2022 Annual Elders and Youth Conference / Annual Meeting
The 2022 annual Denakkanaaga Elders and Youth Conference will take place on June 7 and 8, and the annual meeting on June 9. Both will take place on a virtual basis and small in-person gathering at the David Salmon Tribal Hall in Fairbanks.
Originally scheduled to be held in Huslia, the meetings were relocated due to covid precautions.
This year the conference focuses on the traditional Athabascan values as the conference delegates and the Denakkanaaga Board of Directors will be electing the region’s Second Traditional Chief. Trimble Gilbert of Arctic Village was the former Second Chief. He automatically became First Chief upon the passing of Chief Don Honea last fall. Both the First and Second Chiefs are lifelong positions.
Packets on both the conference registration and selection of the Second Chief were sent to tribal councils recently.
