2022 Denakkanaaga Annual Meeting Results
The Denakkanaaga Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the David Salmon Tribal Hall in Fairbanks and via Zoom.
Two elder seats and the youth representative seat were up for election. Elected to the board was elder Joseph Maillelle of Grayling for Seat E Lower Yukon, who was re-elected after running unopposed. Elected to Seat C Fairbanks North Star Borough was Glenn “Manny” Carlo who was nominated from the floor at the meeting. Also running for Seat C were Rev. Dr. Anna Frank who ran for re-election, and Daisy Stevens, who was also nominated from the floor. Natalie Newman, the youth representative for the board was re-elected after running unopposed. Ms. Newman will serve a one-year term, and the elder board members will each serve a three-year term that will expire in 2025.

Andy Jimmie of Minto Chosen as Traditional Second Chief of Interior Alaska

Andy Jimmie of Minto has been chosen as the new Traditional Second Chief for Interior Alaska. Chief Jimmie was selected at the annual Denakkanaaga Elders and Youth Conference on June 8, 2022 by the conference delegates, Denakkanaaga board members and Traditional First Chief Trimble Gilbert of Arctic Village. Chief Jimmie will serve in this capacity for life, offering traditional leadership to those in the 42 Interior villages and Fairbanks.
Chief Gilbert, who was the former Second Chief, automatically became First Chief upon the passing of the late First Chief Donald Honea in September 2021.
Chief Jimmie is also a board member of Denakkanaaga representing Seat A Yukon-Tanana subregion.
